The Teaching and Research Area ‚Biology Education‘ deals with the training of biology teacher students’ pedagogical content knowledge enabling them to successfully plan, conduct and reflect teaching and learning processes.

The research focus of the department is the modeling of process-related competencies necessarily involved in learning scientific contents, e.g. scientific reasoning or sustainability reasoning processes. Learning environments are designed and tested empirically in order to evaluate their effectiveness. Results from research inform pre- and in-service teacher training.
